Queens of the Court

Venus and Serena

The Williams Sisters have changed the game of tennis.  It is amazing how well these women have done and are still dominating the game ever since their Professional Debut in 1997.  Yesterday Venus and Serena were victorious and will met in their in the Wimbledon final for their second consecutive year and their fourth time overall.

Both Venus and Serena have cruised this years tournament until Serena had a semi-final scare against the tough Elena Dementieva.  The number 4 seed Dementieva took the first set in a tie-break, but in true Williams for, Serena brought her Compton out, kicked it up a notch and took the next two sets.  Afterwards, Venus embarrassed the world’s number 1, Dinara Safina by beating her 6-1 6-0 in less than an hour.

I can never express how happy I am that it is an all Williams finally.  It is my two favorite players so I can’t lose.  I used to be nervous when these two would meet.  It could either be a very timid, boring match because both sister had sympathy for the other, or it would be a phenomenal show down of the best female players in the game.  Now I have no worries.  They are too old to let their emotions stand in the way of a championship.  I know this years Wimbledon final will be epic.

I love Serena, but Venus is and has always been my favorite sister.  She is more graceful and elegant and she is often the underdog, except here.  Venus, the reining champion, has won an amazing 5 Wimbledon titles while Serena has only one 2 (in 2002 and 2003).  Serena on the other hand has won more total Grand Slams than Venus, including the latest Australian Open and US Opens. Both of them are amazing in their own way and they both want this title badly.

The Wimbledon Ladies Singles Final airs on Saturday, July 4th at 9am on NBC .  Don’t call me until it’s over.  I refuse to miss a point.

Epic Serena
